Super Typhoon Yolanda

After the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that shook the provinces of Visayas region, another catastrophic event had just struck the same region.

Last Friday- 8 November, a super typhoon Yolanda who has international name of typhoon Haiyan landed on the provinces of Eastern Visayas. It was recorded as one of the strongest typhoon (combination of Hurricane Sandy and Katrina) in the world that sustained wind of 235km/hr (145 mph), with gust of 275km/h (170 mph) and waves as high as 15m (45ft). The storm brought as much as 400mm (15.75 inches) of rain fell in some other places.

CNN report from Tacloban

Typhoon Yolanda ripped off the entire provinces particularly the Tacloban, as it washed away homes because of floods and destroyed the buildings, roads, and cut the power lines. These areas are totally devastated by this powerful storm.

More than nine million people have been affected  and most of them are struggling to survive without food, clean water to drink and shelter. The death toll is expected to go above 10,000 people as hundreds of thousand more have been displaced. In some places, the dead are being buried in mass grave. There were reports that looting was widespread  but others are simply scavenging for their food  in order to survive

It's totally heart wrenching seeing these photos and videos of the aftermath and people who were struggling from their lost of homes and love ones. I wish I could fly back to Manila to volunteer in relief operation. I am hundred miles away from home but it doesn't mean I can't help. There are ways and means how will I extend my aid to my helpless kababayans who were victims of Yolanda. I have packed some of our not so-old clothes, few blankets and towels to be sent back home through the help of my  friends.

Despite of losing strength, I know our country will surely rise from this wrath. Our spirit wont die down, we maybe a small country but we are strong nation facing this tragedy with faith, courage and hope because we know that God, thoughts and prayers from other nations are with us.

Sending my love and prayers for those who lost their family and  homeless. I know that God will give you comfort and hope to carry on.  God Bless Philippines!
