Simbang Gabi ...

i was talking to my son last night through tango when suddenly my dad asked him to get into bed because they need to wake up early for the simbang gabi. wow, ENVY!!! and apparently i missed christmas in pinas. when the simbang gabi starts, christmas season will starts too. me and my family would religiously  attended the simbang gabi and if I recall clearly, we completed it but i just don't know how many times.

simbang gabi is one of the filipino christmas tradition. it's a series of 9 dawn masses which normally starts as early as 4:00 am that starts every 16th of december. the last day of simbang gabi falls on the 24th which is the christmas eve. we called it the misa de gallo or the midnight mass which translated as rooster's mass by spanish friars. they were the ones who introduced this customary tradition to allow the farmers to hear the mass before going to the field. as to us filipinos, it became a distinct culture to celebrate mass as early as that to honor our blessed mother mary for the birthday of jesus christ.

as the church bells start ringing as early as three o' clock, people starts waking up and preparing themselves for the dawn mass. everyone is excited to hear the mass! normally during first day, the priest  will just reminds us what really the true essence of christmas.

seriously, the most enjoyable part which i do really miss alot from simbang gabi is the bibingka, puto bumbong, lugaw, how chocolate after the mass.

what's your simbang gabi experience guys?
